Handwoven Scarf Gray
This Handwoven Scarf Gray scarf has come from this lovely village in the Hills of Guilin where the Red people live. They are called the red people because of the colour of their clothing.
Guilin
Guilin is a city in southern China. In the hills are many villages where the people of these villages grow rice on the terraced hills.
The women of these villages create beautiful handcrafted work. In 2016 I visited one of these villages and fell in love with the wonderful people I met there.
Weaving
This lady sat on her deck outside her home every morning I was there, weaving continuously. The item she is weaving here is a replacement for the jacket she is currently wearing.
In the background you can see her brightly coloured woven items. These would have taken her hours to make.
This photo shows the detail of what she is working on. You can see the intricate design of her work. Isn’t it beautiful.
Another women in the village was making beautiful belts. This photo shows you how vibrant the colours are in the work they produce. It also shows you how simply they work. She is using a stool on a chair to work from and a large rock to hold her work steady.
